In Mai-HiME, a Child is a creature which a HiME is able to summon. Most Childs have their origin in ancient deities or mythological beasts. They seem to be composed of both biological and synthetic elements. Childs are linked to the HiME’s Most Important Person (anime) or Key (manga). In the anime, the Child can be summon any time after the HiME has accepted it, whereas in the manga, the HiME needs to touch her Element to her key in order to summon her Child. Such is the connection between the Most Important Person/Key, when the Child is defeated and killed, the Most Important Person/Key “dies” too. In the anime, the HiME loses her powers at this point, whereas in the manga, she can locate another Key and rematerialise a child.
