Midori Sugiura (Japanese: 杉浦碧, Sugiura Midori)is a character in Mai-HiME. A character of the same name and same design features in Mai-Otome. Midori is portrayed by Yukari Tamura in Japanese and Mariette Sluyter in English.
Midori is a young woman first seen as a clumsy waitress at the Linden Baum restaurant. However, it is later revealed that she is a keen researcher into the roots of the HiME Carnival and has an extensive knowledge of history and archaeology.
After Sawada-sensei is injured in an Orphan-induced road accident, Midori replaces him as Mai Tokiha's homeroom teacher. She also teaches Japanese history. Despite her accomplishment (not to mention the fact that she's 24), a running joke throughout the series is Midori's claim to be only 17. Unsurprisingly, she is not widely believed.
She is later seen snooping around the Fuuka shrine (run by Shiho Munakata's grandfather Jin), where a wedding is about to take place. Making the most of the opportunity created due to carious being moved from a storage area for this purpose by Midori's Linden Baum colleague Mai, Mai's brother Takumi, Shiho, Mikoto Minagi and Yuuichi Tate, Midori enters the building and is subsequently locked in for the night, amusing herself by reading old Japanese erotic literature, before being discovered by Mai. Midori then releases an Orphan, revealing herself to be a HiME wielding a labrys and summoning the Child Gakutenou and rushing to the aid of the beleaguered Mai, Mikoto and Natsuki Kuga who are having little success against the foe, before Midori and Gakutenou destroy it.
